The word Soroptimist is derived from the latin word ‘soro’meaning ‘sister’ and ‘optima’ meaning ‘best’. We interpret ‘soroptimists’ as ‘the best of women’. Soroptimist International is a world wide organisation for women in management and the professions. It is a global voice for women through awareness, advocacy and action.
The Bray & District Soroptimist Club was formed in 1958 and over the years has grown significantly while adapting with changing times. The club always instils and maintains the ethos of Soroptisim. The club is currently thriving, with many young vibrant members who work with founder members to develop ideas for the way forward. There are currently 36 members in Bray & District.
The Club has received a Chamber of Commerce Endevour Award in recognition of their active work in the community. In 2006 the Club received an Award for Excellence in Marketing and PR from the Federation of Ireland and Great Britain.
